Austyn West has joined the group as an undergraduate researcher. Austyn is a chemistry major at UA. His research is focused on the synthesis of ligand for cooperative metal-ligand catalysis.
Four new students joined the Shaughnessy group as undergraduate researchers this semester. Geoffrey Alintoff is a New College student and a University Fellow. He is working on new ligands for extraction of heavy metals from water sources. Lindsey Hiatt is a Chemical Engineering major and a Randall Research Scholar. Lindsey is working on new palladium precatalysts for cross-coupling reactions. Allison Rhoads is a chemistry major and a member of the Emerging Scholars program. Allison is working on new ligand for cooperative catalysis applications. Trey Vardaman is a New College student. He is working on catalysts for alkyne cross-coupling reactions.
Tattum Denham joined the group as an undergraduate researcher. Tattum is a Health Professions major from Piedmont, AL. She is working on the synthesis of new ligands for metal-ligand cooperative catalysis.
Undergraduate researchers Sabrina Curley, Jade Kelley, and Brent Kuhnfeld earned their BS degrees during the May commencement. Sabrina has been accepted to the PhD program in materials engineering at Michigan State University. Jade will enroll in the University of Texas School of Dentistry. Brent will take a gap year while applying to medical school.
Zoe Ziegenhorn has joined the group as an undergraduate researcher. Zoe is a French major pursuing a pre-health track. Her research is focused on the synthesis of bidentate phosphines with two different phosphorus coordinating groups.
Sabrina Curley, a Mechanical Engineering major and Chemistry minor, joined the Shaughnessy group this fall. Sabrina is working on a joint project between the Shaughnessy and Bakker groups focused on the synthesis of metal-ligand complexes that can be incorporated in carbon mesoporous materials.
Brent Kuhnel, a Chemical Engineering major, joined the Shaughnessy group as an undergraduate researcher in summer 2017. Brent is working on the synthesis of new heterobidentate diphosphine ligands.
